Introducing the Coop (Co-op)
It was a cold, miserable day in January but that did not deter 25 researchers, from six UK institutions, migrating to down to Bournemouth for the first official meeting of our AHRC-funded project ‘Changing Scientific and Cultural Perceptions of Human-Chicken Interactions’.
During this two-day research bonanza, the various members of the team got to know each other, learn about the exiting scientific and cultural research being undertaken by the different disciplines represented around the table, and, most importantly, to consider the transformative connections that this collaborative project will undoubtedly bring.
With formal and informal talks, during which colleagues interjected freely with new perspectives and idea, the atmosphere was electric. Already it is clear that this project is going to make a different to the research of every individual involved. What is equally clear is that this project also has the potential to impact the lives of millions of chickens, by using scientific and cultural data to challenge the perceptions of those people who live alongside them.
